Radiological Imaging Findings of Post-Partum Developing Ovarian Vein Thrombosis

Abstract

Ovarian vein thrombosis (OVT) is a rare but serious complication that can often develop secondary to C-section, vaginal delivery, pelvic surgery, infections, and malignancies. It can be fatal because it carries the risk of pulmonary thromboembolism. The clinical findings of OVT are nonspecific. OVT should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients who are clinically difficult to diagnose and present with an acute abdomen after normal vaginal delivery. Today, although surgical treatment is possible, antibiotic therapy and anticoagulant treatments are also accepted. In this case, we aimed to discuss the simultaneous USG, Doppler USG, CT, and MRI findings of ovarian vein thrombophlebitis, which can be confused with acute appendicitis, in a patient who presented with the symptoms of the acute abdomen after normal vaginal delivery.
